Important Legislation for 2012

With current guidance stipulating the use of products that meet BS EN 1276 we now have a quantifiable measure of how effective bactericidal cleaning products are.

Previously if a manufacturer claimed a product was "Bactericidal" my officers had no quick way of assessing whether the claim was correct and had to accept the product was going to work, this is until swabs or food sample results came back from the laboratory unsatisfactory.

With the insistence on products that meet the BS EN 1276 my officers can now check dilution rates and cleaning methods, this should result in higher standards of cleanliness and better life for foods and of course a reduced number food poisoning cases."

You may, or may not be aware of the new standards in cleaning chemicals required to be used within the industry and by the environmental health officers throughout the country, however, ‘Any disinfectants or sanitiser used must at least meet the official standards BS EN 1276:1997 or BS EN 13697:2001’

The BS EN standards for chemical disinfection are not new to the industry, however, the insistence on their use by standard assessing authorities is. We have had a number of enquires from our customers within the industry looking for information on how best to comply with Environmental Health Officers requests on BS EN standards.

As a result of this, we at Paragon invested substantial resources in upgrading biocides and formulas in our popular products Blade QAC (multi task surface cleaning and sanitising) Spray Bac (Non rinse surface and equipment sanitiser) and Para Gem (detergent sanitiser for dish and utensils etc) in preparation for independent BS EN testing.

It is with great pleasure that we can now confirm all three products successfully passed testing and are now BS EN 1276 certified. Blade QAC, Para Gem and Spray Bac cover the majority of cleaning tasks required in today’s food premises and can now provide you with a very simple core cleaning system that complies with current food hygiene legislation.

In addition to the newly certified products we now stock a range of colour coded 750ml sprays to compliment a colour coded hygiene system, this is supplemented with an array of signage. We would also like to remind you that Federation members are entitled to a 20% discount on all chemical Paragon products including the afore mentioned BS EN 1276 trio.
